Flat (https://flat.io), the collaborative music score editor just closed a seed funding round led by two well-known business angels: Jean David Blanc (Allocine, Molotov.tv) and Pierre Kosciusko-Morizet (PriceMinister, Isai).

This financial operation will be used to reinforce the team and structure the company in order to keep on with the development and maintain an high growth.

Launched in November 2014, Flat is an online music notation editor. It allows multiple musicians to compose, listen to compositions and annotate them in real time together, wherever they are in the world directly using a web browser.

Initially used by experienced musicians looking for new ways to create music, the community quickly expanded to music enthusiasts, teachers as well as their students and will shortly be available to musicians possessing electronic instruments (keyboard, drum, guitar).

Flat is a team of 8 people and has a community of 130,000 composers writing more than three millions music notes per month.

A Google for Education Partner

Moreover, Flat is joining the official Google for Education Partner Program:

Joining the Google for Education Partner Program will help us enhance our users’ experience as well as democratize music composition in the world. It started with the integration of Flat into Google Hangouts to enhance remote collaboration and has continued with our integration with Google Apps for Education and Drive last spring and now with the integration with Google Classroom.” says Vincent Giersch, Flat’s CTO.

Designed for teachers and their students, Google Classroom is an academic mission control center: allowing teachers to create classes, distribute assignments, send feedback, and see everything in one place. The Classroom integration is an opportunity for Flat to help bring their revolutionary music learning to the Google for Education community and enable teachers and students to easily compose music together, wherever they are.
