Medieval Modes

Medieval music was based on one of seven scales or modes. Some of the modes were used for joyful music, others for meditative chant, and some were used to tell sad stories. The starting note for each of these modes are in order from the C major scale (C, D, E, F G, A, B; the white keys on a piano)
