This movement is written in a loose theme and variations form. The theme, which is first heard in measures 1-40, is in two parts, a quick-paced dance-like melody, and a lyrical melody. The movement then moves into the parallel key, g minor, and develops the melodies a bit before transitioning into B-flat major, where a triplet variation on the theme begins. The triplets push back towards g minor, allowing the music to modulate back to the home key of G major, where a beautiful variation of the lyrical theme sings out before returning to the original theme at the end of the movement and concluding with a short coda. Enjoy!
