This piece (a WIP) is based on the Northern Lights, otherwise known as aurora borealis. The part that the vibraphone plays and the flutes, clarinets, and oboe collectively play represents the colors of the aurora darting across the sky. The solid whole notes which the brass and bassoon play represents the strong clouds holding back the northern lights from coming to the sky to be able to be seen. The short one-measure phrase which the vibraphone plays exits the piece later to represent the lights and colors fading from the sky and it comes back later in the score to portray the lights coming back and darting across the night sky. I hope you like this original piece for concert band!
