The trio is inspired by a piece of art which showed a trio of skeletal women dressed in flowing yellow dresses, wearing vivid flower crowns and being surrounded by bright blue butterflies in the middle of a damp marsh. The trio of skeletons were playing a flute, a double bass and presumably a violin. The piece is meant to reflect the trio performing an improvised melancholic piece to showcase their sorrows with being trapped within the marsh, unable to move on to the afterlife. The violin and string bass were then replaced with the viola and cello to as to help convey the sorrowful tone of the piece with a more clarified, rich sound.
