This is an original arrangement for jazz combo. The written baseline and the piano part are just recommended lines, of course. I started this tune based off of the first few bars of Walter Blanding's solo on "Oclupaca" (with the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra). His solo began with a cool phrase, and that got me started. Also, I can't think of a name, so I just put "Blanding". If you have any better ideas, please tell me.
UPDATE DEC 6 2020: I decided to polish this piece off a bit. I rewrote the chord changes and I changed the layout of the entire song. The melody remains untouched, but I changed it from a confusing 16-bar head to a less confusing 18 bar head. The way I wrote this song out originally was very strange, so I think this new 18-bar form will be much easier. The song is now structured as three 6-bar phrases (A, B, C). The "C" part of the head is actually a bass solo, which I feel is very unique about this piece. I wrote out a solo to go with it, but it's really supposed to be improvised. Same with everything the rhythm section plays in ANY of my songs.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Let me know what you think.
