A little bird told me this song is better with headphones.
A couple of weeks into writing this, I revisited Sawyer’s announcement to see what other people had been submitting. All great stuff, but I was disappointed to find that I had slightly misunderstood the prompt. What we have here is a collection of four short tunes that I composed based on memorable *lyrics* from the song. Evidently, we were to select *one* *musical* passage as our base. Rather than start from scratch and submit a score I was less proud of and not as excited about, I finished this one. Even if it isn’t a proper submission, I’m happy with the results and would love feedback.

And my indefensible musical ideas:
I’m Your Only Friend: Ah, the iconic intro. It always seemed to me that the narrator was conceited, but not unfriendly. I tried to capture an “I’m better than you but I’m too polite to show it” vibe.
Like Guardian Angels: I don’t think I’ve read a story where a guardian angel is depicted as sinister. The narrator might be exaggerating his benevolence, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt for this movement.
I’m the Only Bee in Your Bonnet: I had fun playing with chromatics (bzz bzz), but was surprised at how difficult it was. Also, if you’re wondering why it’s more menacing than annoying, he *did* kill Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts. Scary bee.
Leave the Nightlight On: Simultaneously sad and hopeful. I wanted to write something that was melancholy but ended on a bright note.
