A good while ago, I was asked by a family member for a piano piece for three people to play on one piano. After a bit of playing around, I said, “Um... sorry, I don’t think I can reasonably do more than a piano duo on one piano.” So I went about my normal life for a long time, and then one day I thought, “Hey, I should use that melody I randomly wrote down months ago and put in my Random Ideas folder (yes I have one) that I still remember!” So I made a new score and started to write that down, and then changed it a bit. (That’s the piece’s main melody. Assuming you pressed play at the time when you started to read this description, you’ve heard it by now.) And then I realized, “Actually, this could totally work as a piano trio.” So I did that. Then after I finished I came to my senses, realizing, “this would be waaay too hard for them to realistically put together.” So, that didn’t work, back to the drawing board. But I created this really cool piece in the process, so all’s well that ends well.
