Mercury | 88 Days

Mercury takes 88 days to make its orbit around the sun. This song is supposed to represent that trip...

I knew I wanted it to be driving throughout the song so I started it with the piano ostinato. I added the syncopated left-hand piano part for a bassline/ countermelody and really liked how it sounded. When I added the double bass in I knew I wanted to add some depth to the eighth note rhythm in the piano. I also just really liked how the double bass popped out the higher notes. I've never written for drums but I really like how it came out. I added the star wars set x wing to help drive home the fast-paced song. In the middle of the song, I changed the key to a major key to imitate a sunrise-type feeling before moving it back to the original, solemn feeling of d minor.
