Joy is not happiness
Joy is a state of mind
Joy is an inner feeling
And sometimes isn't easy to find

Joy comes in many ways, but
Joy must be picked
Joy isn't pursued, and
It's something you can't predict

Joy is voluntary
Joy is a way of life
It is apparent in the holidays, but
It will always come, even in strife.

Hey everyone! This is my entry for Flat's competition. I honestly felt, and still feel that I'm not that good at jazz, but this piece proved to turn out pretty good! The title is such, because that is what I feel once the Christmas holiday comes around. Just the fact knowing that I've lived through to another Christmas, when not everyone can say the same, makes me joyful, and I wanted to express that in this piece. As you can probably tell, the piece isn't always happy. Joy can come whether you're in a good or bad spot, since joy is an intentional state of mind, unlike happiness, which comes and goes from time to time, and must be replenished.
