This piece is my submission for the April 2023 Flat challenge. For this challenge, I took the approach of writing a love story which takes place upon the treacherous seas, where a young man seeks to join his love by crossing a sea through heavy waves and rain. The story is captured in the following poem (written by Thomas Bozarth).
"Troubled Waters"
Alone he stares across the sea Yearning for a love he may never see
For the sea it is vast, its waves rolling barrels To be with his love, he must face this peril
Tonight is the night He must wait no more For the love of his dreams sits on faraway shores
He takes to the seas as a warrior to battle But the waves shake his bones like a snake shakes its rattle
And the clouds in the distance are ablaze with great flashes He knows that soon there will be lightning crashes
The rains join the seas in their watery displays The sea spray and fog fill his visions with haze
Yet he tarries onward He is not to be deterred To give up on love would now be absurd
Yet rage rage on goes the sea and the rain Determined to bring suffering Determined to bring pain
All seems to be lost yet hope brings a glimmer The clouds split to provide the moon a bit of shimmer
The moon casts a light on that faraway shore His love is awaiting He must tarry no more
His journey across the troubled waters is finished He is reunited with love which will never diminish. -- Please enjoy this piece! There are two distinct sections, so please listen to both!
