Prof. P's 2023 Competition Entry [Round II Alt.]
A New Style. A New Milestone. Yet the stories never came...
@the_piano_professor 's second round came with a few curveballs, with the original round theme being to use at least 3 instruments to score... a drum solo??
Nevermind. I'll take the alternate theme of Latin.
Thus began my research under these two topics: the Latin-Rock substyle, and the Samba beat. I found a band by the name of "Savor" whose album "Moviendote" rather conveniently gave me both in one nice package, while exploring traditional genres under the Latin umbrella. I decided to take a structured salsa dance approach while emphasizing call and response between the guitar and brass. On top of this, I sprinkled in 3 different samba beat combinations to keep things rhythmically interesting.
I will probably have points docked for the second half, which is more western dance/rock tuned to a samba beat. Also, I rather conveniently forgot that Latin music has an element of *jazz* in it. Blame my procrastination and me making 70% of this in under a week lol. Let's hope the judges give me style points in return, but who's keeping track? I'm way out in left field when it comes to Latin music.
Oh? I'm a quarter thousand in follower count? Cool. I'll get back to you on that on the 26th of May, fingers crossed I don't procrastinate again.

Holy shit this is perfect! Man, the piano solo at the start and the instrumentation right after... It's just so perfect!!! I really love the unusual chort progressions you're using here! I'm not very big on Latin, but ngl this makes me want to look into it more.

RedProductions@chopiliszt Nah Chop you got me in a cold sweat when you published. You pulled a me in experimentation. I know you're getting points for originality with that mysterious mood, and those brass and clave tremolos. (Also forgot to like your piece lemme do that very quick)
And yeah, I am loving messing around with the distortion guitars. I've made some silly run and "shreds" before, and this is more melodic and simple than some of my crazy ones.

@ddw one of the modes of the major scale. starts on scale degree 3. basically just minor, but with a flattened 2 (so C Phrygian is C, Db, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb, C, Aka the scale starting on the third of the Ab major scale)

RedProductions@a_red_cat_lol I knew it felt weirdly too "in time", but Rory wanted it in triplet time so it felt more free flow. The second triplet is correctly timed though.
