I'm going to a music camp for a couple weeks, so I probably won't be on flat very much. Then, pretty soon after I get back from music camp, I'm going backpacking, and then school starts. So I probably won't be on flat for maybe around a month.
Also, (rant warning) I just noticed Flat's recorder fingerings, and there's a lot to say about them. . . So first of all, I don't like them very much because Flat talks about them as though recorder is an instrument only played by kids. Also, recorder fingerings are not as simple as flat makes them seem. Sure, the flat fingerings will work for basics, but each note on the recorder has about 5 or so alternate fingerings for trills or for slightly different intonation or tone color. To make things more complicated, the fingerings for a lot of notes change slightly based on which recorder you're playing. For instance, the Ab on my wooden soprano has one more finger than on my plastic one, my alto uses two half holes, and my tenor uses its low c# key as well as two holes above that. As a flute/clarinet/sax player, I can easily say that the recorder's fingering system is the most complex out of all the classical woodwind instruments. So it just seems a bit silly the way flat's recorder fingerings work. I guess they're fine for teaching third graders though. *sigh*
Anyways, recorder rants aside, have y'all a great rest of your summer!
