This song is meant to represent the story "The Scarlet Ibis" by James Hurst. A basic rundown of the story: This boy really wanted a sibling and when he got one, the brother turned out to be an invalid. Though they spend time with each other and loved each other, things went downhill. Doodle (the invalid brother) was pushed way past his limits just because the brother was embarrassed to have a disabled brother. The brother's pride took over him and caused him to be cruel to Doodle. In the end, They were running to get back home after going on a boat in the swamp. There was an intense storm and they couldn't see all that much while running. Doodle unable to keep up, got left behind by his brother and had nothing he could do except yell "Brother! Don't leave me!" Eventually the brother realized that Doodle wasn't catching up, so he went back to get him. He found Doodle, covered in blood curled up behind a bush. Doodle was trying to keep up with his brother, but pushed himself too hard and had an extreme heart attack.
The story truly is a tragedy, but it teaches you to appreciate your peers and family. "You won't realize how precious they are until they are gone, so Carpe Diem!" -My english teacher Mr. Baumann.
