This piece is my submission for the October 2023 HALLOWEEN challenge.
It uses many elements of Dark Romanticism to set a very scary and dreary tone. Throughout the piece you will hear elements such as tritone, atonal and dissonant passages, and minor key lamentation style music. I chose this style because it makes for a very dramatic and emotional feeling which evokes Halloween in the strongest sense.
The song tells a story of a small group of trick-or-treaters who wonder off into an abandoned graveyard and awaken many ghosts. These ghosts rise from their graves and begin to pursue our group of trick-or-treaters.
They run as fast as they can, hearts pounding, not remembering how they got here or how they would escape. The ghosts become louder, their voices reaching a feverish pitch. However, the trick-or-treaters are able to find a cabin to hide in and wait for their chance to escape.
Inside the cabin are ghastly, haunting images of residents from centuries ago. Although they are hidden from the ghosts, the images create a sense of dread and terror they may never forget.
The ghosts have moved on and its time to escape! If they survive, they will never come to this graveyard again!
