This is the third movement of my first string trio in F Major. Contrasting the first two movements, this movement is much darker and more introspective with more expressive harmonies and shifts. It is in this movement in which the innocence from the first two has transformed into a longing and melancholy ache of reminiscence. The piece modulates from the tonic of D Minor to other places such as B-Flat Major and F Minor, showing the drift of lightness into dark. Odd and syncopated rhythms emerge as a display of the irregularity of the spirit. Despite this, a triumphant section in D Major occurs, celebrating the change of old to new, then dying down. It ends ambiguously with the viola trilling between major and minor harmony and eventually ending with a quiet indeterminate chord. It isn't the best I've written, but I hope you enjoy. Criticism is appreciated if you have any.
