so i kinda forgot about this, and no one ended up submitting, so we're gonna try again
Premise: Write an original jazz piece specifically for this competition in one of three categories or as a mix of two of them. The categories are Latin, Rock, and Swing. For reference, Latin is basically all styles of jazz that originated in Latin America, for example, Salsa, Bossa Nova, and Samba. Rock covers many categories, and it’s honestly hard to explain, but most notably it covers Funk. Swing covers almost all of the jazz originating from the South and Harlem, covering Dixieland, Swing, and most Bebop. Swing is most heavily characterized by swinging the eighth note, however, not all swing does, so be careful.
To be clear, this is a one-round comp, solely for fun. Along with myself, Unnatural and Shayne will be judging your submissions, based on the criteria below:
Style: x/30 Extra Ink: x/10 Personal Taste: x/20 Engagement: x/20 Transitions: x/20
Explanations: - Style is how well you portray the style(s) you are using - Extra Ink is how much tasteful dynamic contrast, articulations, and other extra details are used. I don’t - Personal Taste should be pretty obvious, It’s how much I personally enjoy it - Engagement is how well you keep the audience’s attention. Jazz was made to dance to, it can’t be boring. - Transitions should also be pretty obvious, make the transitions work. If it’s abrupt, make it abrupt for a reason.
Due Date: September 1st
Anyway, I hope you all have fun, and I’m excited to see some good jazz!
