Hello all!
This is the fourth but not final movement of my first string trio in F. Deciding to deviate from the tradition, the fourth movement is in the form of a scherzo and trio. Short but sweet, it begins with a crescendo in 9/8 into the main theme in D minor. The base of the scherzo, the theme is simple but effective. For the second part of the A section, the theme is presented in the relative major of F with chromatic pitches in the viola and cello. Then comes the trio, which is abruptly switched to F minor by a dark ostinato in the cello. The violin and viola share a duet over the cello ostinato, firmly in F minor. The second part of the trio is more lively with marcato quarter notes that quickly transitions by accelerando into the scherzo without repetition. After the buildup from the first measure, the scherzo appears again lacking any repeat signs. Slightly modified, it concludes with a dramatic ending closing in the unexpected D major. This piece represents the frustration, despair, and at times the appreciation of moving on in life. Criticism is appreciated if you have any.
Thanks all!
