Hello, nerds! When I started to compose on Flat, I REALLY wanted to be a composer for Band, like Randall Standridge. I thought Orchestrals were not my thing. I thought that if that went well, then I could transition to making video game OST. Obviously, I went FAR off my original path! 😅 However, I realized that making Band pieces would extend my style and create music that isn't emotional. Orchestral pieces are emotional, but Band pieces have a reputation for having lots of energy, which is (unfortunately) one of the reasons why I quit Marching Band. At first, this was meant to be a Marching Band show of a techno circus, but then it turned into a Drumline piece. Once I realized that I still didn't know how to make full melodies, this piece turned into a Drum Cadence rather quickly. This is intended to be played as many times as a Band would need for a parade or event, and then the last measure would be the "Halt" transition. Since I wanted this piece based off of a modern circus, I chose Circus Oz because it is a rock n roll circus in Australia. They are also hype and energetic, so I thought that this drum cadence captured that!
Let me know how I did. This is my second time working with percussion!
