I originally created this piece as a way to express my feelings and my hopefulness for the future that lies ahead of me. But as I began creating the piece, it turned into slightly more than that.
I finished my first draft of this composition about four months ago. I wrote it with no accidentals, no bow directions, and just simply pure imagination. I came to the realization later on that I wanted this piece to be easier to read, and also not contain nearly as many sixteenth notes as it did back then (Because something had happened to the point where the sixteenth notes did not become swung, and the piece lost it's charm, in my opinion). Around one month later, I had what I thought to be my final draft. I fixed the sixteenth note swing and all of the areas where I had quarters tied to eighth notes. I put dotted quarter notes instead.
I play the tuba, so I had not known nearly as much about orchestra music as my friends who actually played in the orchestra. So when I showed some of my friends in the orchestra, and they advised me to put bow directions on the score. It took me weeks to understand how to write bow directions, but now I have a pretty good idea of how to write them. Once I wrote them, I had my friends check them and modify them as needed. Then, two months ago, I ended up with this: a composition I am very proud of and one I think is worth sharing. Thanks ahead of time for listening, and thanks for reading my long description.
