This was my 8th attempt to finish a song over the last 2 months.
After publishing “Journeyman”, I would continuously try to write down ideas as soon as they came up, but there never seemed to be a time where I could just get an idea, and write it down, since I would usually be in other places where I wouldn’t have access to Flat.
I found a song named “Flow” by Creo, and I absolutely loved it when I first listened. Sometimes I would misremember a part of the piece in my head and it ends up sounding like a whole other song. However, I was still in the wrong places when having these moments of misremembering. At that point I tried to see what was going wrong in my motivation.
I found these things called “chronotypes”, and they are sort of like time frames when we work best. I realized that I was sort of an early bird, and that the times in which I was the most inclined to compose were also the times I would be away, such as school and other sorts of required stuff.
I decided to sit down and just try, one more time, to finish a piece.
I started with inspiration from “Flow” and included a saxophone, which is something I had never done before. From there, I found myself in the flow state that I had failed to achieve for so long. The following day, I made the ending using callbacks to the beginning verse.
My favorite section of this piece is the start of the second half, from measure 58 to 81. It has a buildup sensation that I cannot describe. The last 2 months were the longest months in terms of my composing journey, and I honestly hope this long breakthrough happens again, and that I find something I had never even thought about prior to it.
I’ll try to make more music, but I won’t stress over it. There’s no guarantee that I will finish something in the next month, but I can guarantee that I will do something, even if that means another failure.
If you read all that, then thanks. I’ll see you in an uncertain amount of time.
