Quite a rare occurrence that I publish twice in a week, but this piece is something I've been working on for a long time that I finished for the January Challenge. First time submitting something btw.
I have plans for extending this piece significantly once the challenge is over- the Flat challenge only allows 4 minutes.
The different sections in this piece represent different times- the past, the present, the future.
I like to describe my emotions through romantic classical music, and I think the viola fits this piece particularly well. Romantic classical music is incredibly complex which is why it is perfect for describing emotions. Over the last 3 years of my composing journey it has been my goal to work towards creating a new classical renaissance for people on flat and to share my passion for music.
I selected a poem by Walt Whitman to represent this piece:
Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road, Healthy, free, the world before me, The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune, Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing, Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms, Strong and content I travel the open road.
The earth, that is sufficient, I do not want the constellations any nearer, I know they are very well where they are, I know they suffice for those who belong to them.
(Still here I carry my old delicious burdens, I carry them, men and women, I carry them with me wherever I go, I swear it is impossible for me to get rid of them, I am fill’d with them, and I will fill them in return.)
I hope ya'll enjoy the piece, I always appreciate feedback! ( Listen to the whole thing, I think the ending is probably one of the best I've ever written :D )
