The prompt for the January challenge is "The Hardest Goodbye." To me, the hardest goodbye is the final goodbye. Life is like an hourglass. We take our time for granted, until it is too late. The quiet motif at the beginning symbolizes the wasting of time. As the piece switches to B Melodic Minor, it represents the realization of not wanting to die. Finally, the end switches to D major as you accept your final goodbye.
My inspiration is a song called "Time" by Hans Zimmer. The song is from the movie "Inception," and the inspiration for using a Horn Quartet is from Rylan Brown's "One Last Sunrise." Please go check out his piece, which is available through the January Challenge tab.
For bonus points, I used a hopeful motif and symbolic instrumentation.
I won't win this, but it was fun to try some of my new music theory techniques and try a new style.
