Petals

This is for the February Challenge. I find an explanation in words not enough. But I do think the letter itself would do an adequate job. My written conversation is between the horn and the piano, with the other instruments as intermediaries and background.

"In the quiet stolen glances, my heart dared but never prompted to act. In the breath betwixt my laughter, I see you, you and no one else. My inner warmth you continue to stay, perhaps little more than a fleeting thought that I never gathered the bravery to expel.

For too long I've stood here, here for you, here in horrible yet beautiful longing. For little more than a word I would carve out my very own heart, perhaps I already have done so. But I've not the bravery to tell you, my mouth would coil and my face would repel. So I here write what spoken words from me may not.

But no, this won't be the way you learn. This wasn't the way it was meant to be. If you were meant to know you already would have, wouldn't you? I'll stay where I am, maybe one day this will fly over, like a passing illness. But perhaps one day this is meant to be more, one day. But not now. For today, my heart remains fluttering.
