This is my submission to the Flat Challenge for February '25.
- This piece showcases "Dual Perspectives" with the piano and piccolo reflecting an imagined conversation, or the imagined perfect outcome to the conversation. - This piece also showcases an unexpected turn in the last 3 measures, where the rhythm and melody suddenly ends and the letter can be heard crumpling (in the MP3 audio.) - This piece also showcases the "Echo of the Unsent" with the same melody being shared by the piano and oboe and being repeated throughout measures 30-37.
Here's the fictional letter from myself to my crush. As many of you may know, I have a girlfriend that I love very much. So I wrote this from the point of view of when me and her were just friends and I had a crush on her! :)
"Hey,
Your friendship has meant the world to me over the past few months. You've truly changed my life for the better and I'm lucky to have met you. You're honestly my best friend in this whole world, and... I want to be more than friends. I've had a crush on you for a while now. You're so sweet to me, and you're beautiful and smart and talented and I just have so much fun talking to you about everything. I really hope you feel the same way, but I understand if not. Most of all, I hope that if you don't, we can stay friends. I really just want what's best for you! So... take as much time as you need to think things over, no pressure. No matter what you choose, I'll always care about you.
Signed, SquiddyCuh"
I know that writing was somewhat mediocre, but I hope the piece wasn't! I tried my best to represent the feeling of true love with this piece - make everything sound dreamy and uplifting, as if the letter's writer is imagining their future with their crush, and make those dreams shatter with the last three measures.
