Honorary Mention in the March 2025 Challenge
This is my submission for the March 2025 Challenge.
My Zodiac symbol is the dragon, which represents power and strength, which is what this piece symbolizes. The dragon is represented by Trumpet 1, which gets a solo from 22-38. The trumpet is one of the most bold, assertive instruments in the band, so I chose it.
The dog, represented by the bari sax and the bassoon, is the dragon’s zodiac opposite, and they each get solos, the former being from 58 to 64, and the latter being 65 to 69. The two also give more flavor to the accompaniment part to the trumpet’s solo.
