I almost forgot to publish this song, but now that it is here, the monthly composition periods will continue.
I will try not to use one word titles anymore as I feel like I should put a bit more effort into them. Also, this song could be a sequel or a prequel to “Presence”. The reason being that I feel like there is something between absence and presence, like existence. For example, if you run out of water in a bottle, it isn’t present in the container anymore but it's not like water disappeared from the planet. A step ahead of absence but a bit before presence seems fitting for this song.
For the first few melodies, I used a strategy I found online while composing “Last Glance” called the “misremember and adjust method”(found it from Zach Heyde), and I thought it would be nice to give it another try.
Let’s just say it worked pretty well. It didn’t do anything legendary but it did help with a few issues I noticed with my previous pieces. I used that method not only for fun but also to see if I could both set this composition apart yet have the same style as “Absence” and “Presence”.
I used successive quarter and eighth notes as the recurring “theme” for this piece, which is quite simple, but I managed to make it sound decent. Although I could have done better, I’m working to lower my expectations of myself as that may be what my issue has been for the past year.
I’ve learned that, for me, the most simple ideas can be turned into intricate compositions, even though I may not have demonstrated that full potential here.
That’s all for this one, if you are reading this, then thank you. I haven’t come up with a name for the trilogy(Absence, Existence, Presence) so maybe you could help me lol
There is no way I will get another song out this month, so see you in April. Possibly twice if I try?
Like if you do, comment if you have one, and enjoy this composition.
