Our add-on doesn’t process or store any personal information. It’s a lighter and simpler version of our main platform that we are happy to provide for free without any concerns about data privacy.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about our terms
COPPA and FERPA compliance (US)
Education accounts (Flat for Education): Flat for Education accounts are compliant with COPPA and FERPA for use by children. You can learn more below about the age requirements to use our service in our dedicated terms in our Terms of Service regarding Student Information in the United States.
Individual accounts: As mentioned in our Individual Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, our Flat Individual Service is not directed at persons under the age of 13 or otherwise ineligible in their country of residence to enter into a legal binding agreement to use our Service. For this reason, you might be required to verify your age when creating your account.
State and District specific agreements (US)
In the US, we can sign agreements specific to your state or district for you to use Flat for Education. Please contact us at edu@flat.io if you have an agreement for your district you would like us to review and sign.
You can also consult the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) website where some of these agreements are public (California, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, Utah, Washington State).
GDPR compliance
Flat is GDPR compliant and you can learn more about our approach to the GDPR on our dedicated page. If you are a school in the EEA (European Economic Area) using Flat for Education, our Business Terms of Service include a dedicated data processing addendum (DPA).
Age requirements on Flat accounts
Individual accounts
For individual accounts, you can check out our dedicated information about our age requirements.
Education Accounts (Flat for Education)
For education accounts, there is no age requirement to use our Service. Please note that your country might require parental consent to create an account containing Personally Identifiable Information (PII) about their children. If you don’t have this consent, you can still use our product by creating generic accounts that won’t contain any PII, for example by using only first names or other generic usernames as identifiers.
